Tata edge closer to Jaguar

The end game is getting closer and Tata are looking the likely winner
If chosen as preferred bidder, which may happen this week, it will represent another coup for the fast-moving industrial group, which this year confirmed its global status by buying steelmaker Corus for £6.2billion.
Tata Motors is in pole position to pick up the two British brands against competition from its rival Mahindra & Mahindra and a private equity group.
Ratan Tata is the chairman of India's most respected conglomerate and may soon own the marque and its factories when Ford offloads the luxury carmaker as part of the Land Rover package.

the pundits have been wrong before, but all of the (so called) experts are are tipping Tata so it must be getting closer - an interesting twist in the fortunes of these 2 iconic car makers I believe that it will be a good move for them both - I think that the Indians have a real feel for this type of product and this segment so yeah - bring it on

if Tata get the brands - will they move production to India ? it would make a lot of sense to get the advantages of a lower labor cost -

Yes but would that destroy the brand. Would you spend a large sum of money for a luxury British brand that was actually made in India?

according to this report - the intention is to retain the 3 UK factories - so Tata is making all the right noises to keep the unions and British people on side -

I know plenty of people who like to talk Jag and the old E type or XK's bring tears to their eyes - but they would never buy one - why ? somewhere along the way the Jag lost the plot I think that a reputation for poor quality was a major factor and the competitors just got a lot better - so if you're going to spend a big lump of cash - it's hard to go past the mercs or beamers or audi's for a reliable quality product

yeah, I knew a guy who bought one a few years ago - and he spent a lot of time stood on the side of the road waiting for the breakdown crew

I think that the brand can and should be reinvigorated - get a good- passionate management team in place and support from the top and get some creativity going and cascade the energy down to everyone involved - from what I read about Tata, they have the ability and vision to do that - quality systems arn't rocket science - just hard work and application

just get them away from Ford - the US corporate Ford group have enough problems trying to get their own house in order in the US - without getting distracted by a type of car they know nothing about - increasingly I'm not sure that they know what to do in the US either - that's all going pear shaped for them

i reckon the real value will be in the Land Rovers - they work well and have good product recognition and good designs - so lets see where the Indians take them -
plenty of competition with the Japs, but I'm sure that the Land Rovers can take them on and win
