Space station modules proposed for UK

Clipped to the Drawing Board by John William
A group of UK scientists and engineers have proposed that Britain builds and launches two modules which would  greatly enhance living conditions on the International Space Station (ISS) project.
The Habitation Extension Modules would increase meeting and bunk space; and allow the UK to fly some dedicated science experiments.
The group argues that it would fire the publics imagination and give UK industry a wonderful new investment opportunity

this is a decision for the Brits - you can't be half pregnant - you're either in it or you're not and they need to make up their minds what they are

sad really - but UK engineering and manufacturing in general has been on a downward spiral for a long time - I it would be nice to see them ramp up their efforts - but I can't see it -

one of the problems with the British is that they are really good at talking and not so good at doing - yeah - they are good at talking the talk - but don't walk the walk

unfortunately - for many many years - probably started after WW2 - there has been a succession of governments with no vision for engineering or manufacturing and so the culture of the nation changes - tiugh but a fact of life - then its hard to change around

you don't need a phd in economics - decide what you are going to do - then do your utmost to do it the best - I agree that the British just seem to have lost direction in engineering - maybe they should just concentrate on commerce
Stan () Newbie | 2008-01-08 19:53:13
ironic tho' cos when you look thru' history - they have come up with some really good inventions - the brain power is there it just needs to be brought out

there are pockets of excellence - but to few and far between - just look at the car industry - mostly owned and controlled by overseas companies - but with just a few small independents - doing good things

a far cry from the good old days of the industrial revolution - when britain led the world - can't see that ever happening again
