General Motors Corp executives expect to have cars which drive themselves - even parking at their destination in less than 10 years time.

Engineers are currently developing vehicles which can detect other road users or dangerous situations and the DARPA challenge has already proved to be a valuable learning experience for driver less vehicles.

"This is not science fiction," Larry Burns, GM's vice-president for research and development, said in a recent interview. when referring to predictions of driver less cars within 10 years
