Grave news in Tombstone
Clipped to the Drawing Board by Susan Decker  

Doug Ellis of Riverview Monuments is finding that its a hard sell to convince customers to buy Hi Tech Tombstones. Engineered to be Hi Tech and weatherproof, they can show digital images and are powered by a solar cell.  To date,  sales = 0,  but hope springs eternal

At first I thought - Tombstones are not the sort of product which jumps out at me as falling into the tech market - but then as I think it through- it becomes a lot more logical - what better way to remember someone than having their image, voice, pictures, photos etc in the Tombstone as a living memory -

I think that they are on to something here what a good idea - it just needs to be sold better - as always, engineers come up with the products - but engineers are not good sales people and many good products never make it because we don't "sell" well

the concept of a lasting reminder is the same - in the old days all they had was a hammer and chisel to carve an epitaph into stone as a way to record and remember the dead - we have a lot better ways these days, so lets use them - yes - I reckon a sharp sales person could change the way we do things

yeah - death and the funeral industry is very old fashioned in everything they do, very sombre and traditional and the first thing people seem to go for is the traditional - maybe there are plenty more opportunities to engineer some changes in the way they do things ?

The real question is, do we really need to change things? Death is forever (well at the moment anyways). Technology isn't forever so the two just don't go together.

leave the electronic gadgets and hype for the lounge room - if you've got plenty of photos, videos and stuff keep it for home - graves, tombstones - stay with the traditional ways - looks a lot better - a lasting reminder and a lot more dignified, better quality - I'm for the tradional ways - I don't think that we need to go down this path and I certainly wouldn't want it

Maybe the guy is just hitting the wrong market. He could possibly do better marketing to a crowd for which bling and gadgets and over the top attention seeking is more important.
