I live in (what I believe to be)a fairly typical world working in manufacturing, regular engineering etc - head down tail up - and then when I start reading the details in this article - it just blows me away - just everything about this project is mind boggling

good isn't it ? we should all get behind this as a "Must Do" initiative - it will galvanize the country and give a common purpose - a reason to be proud of the scientific and engineering skills and on a slightly different tack - sure to create many jobs and opportunities in engineering and manufacturing -

the ripple effect through the economy will be enormous - thats what I like about these big projects - gets a bit of certainty into the engineering and manufacturing industries - and it just flows through the communities

yeah - strategic work stays in the country - so we shouldn't see the "Made in China" logo on anything

- correct up to a point - but remember that increasingly "the world is a global village" I'd be watching the procurement side of things very closely + with IT outsourcing there is a need to be very careful about who is doing this work - there will be a huge amount of IT work on this project

I never really thought about it before, but aspects like nuclear power - so obvious and I like the bit about the astronauts growing their own vegetables - again, makes a lot of sense = just a self contained community - I hope that they get plenty of mental training

it sounds as though it has been all thought through very well - use the moon as a training ground - get our learnings there - then push out for the big one - Mars - the attached link takes you to a nice page of data

it's all about manned flight - the challenges just get bigger and more intense with human beings - it's not nice to get it wrong with equipment, that can be easily replaced- but human life is another dimension

another good article looking at this project - every side of the project is a "wow" we need to think that through - but all do able and what's not - we'll make it do able -

the last thing that you want is to get a flat when your out and about in the buggy - racing across Mars - so those clever people at NASA have got that covered as well -
