 Shine a light on me - good while it lasted but there's a new product out there - ironically the new product has some deficiency too

General Electric Co ., founded by incandescent bulb developer Thomas Edison, said Thursday that it planned to cut about 1,400 jobs in its lighting division as the company closes plants in the United States and Brazil amid a consumer shift to more energy-efficient fluorescent lamps.

Well if more people were buying the fluorescent's then wouldn't they be hiring more people to make those and so it would balance out?

Two points, 1 - The new style last a lot longer so fewer need to be made 2 - the location of the factories making the new flouro . Obviously this is a business decision, but not in the same place
