 To be quite frank,  No - I can't imagine it - but then again - I'm just jealous

(Fortune Magazine) -- Imagine a superclean driving machine capable of beating a Lamborghini Murcielago, a Porsche Carrera GT, even a Winston Cup car - and which gets the equivalent of 170 mpg. I have seen that future and, even better, I am the only automotive journalist who has driven it.

there was an article on this site recently about blind people complaining that electric cars are dangerous for them because they can not hear them - well, have I got knews for them - this little beauty is going to hvave them in all sorts of trouble - on a serious note, there is a lot of work going on and it's obviously paying off - the engineering efficiencies are just so much better - if - the whole package can be brought together - no real mention of batteries and recharge time - this where the breakthru needs to come

And how about repairability/reliability/MTTF/Mean cost of repair of the power systems: are we talking an energy storage life cycle of 50 charge/discharge cycles or maybe $800 for each of 5 power switching semiconductors? What about the repair and maintenance infrastructure: will traditional hydrocarbon oriented mechanics be able to safely determine which section of the electrical power system is in need of repairs, and more, will they know how to assemble the repair components into the electrical system and retain the reliability? (I can't trust mechanics to refasten my autos wheels at torque levels that humans and vehicle lug wrenches can achieve... imagine them bolting down bussbars onto semiconductors).

Can't simply go jumping off bridges without firing a few synapses in the grey matter.

Well, we're not at that stage yet. We're still definitely in the development stages of these technologies.

It's like when computers first came out and they were the size of rooms and massively slow compared to todays tech. Skip forward a few years and you can now have many times the performance in a mobile phone.

I reckon it's following a similar pattern for this. Right now we're merely learning, the great stuff is soon to come.
