Improving MotorCycle Safety

Safety systems have improved significantly on cars but largely bypassed the most vulnerable road users: those on motorcycles and scooters. Special report by Motoring Editor JOSHUA DOWLING.

Each time a motorcyclist sets off on a journey, be it for work or a weekend escape, he or she is four times more likely to die than a car driver.
If a motorcyclist happens to be involved in a crash with another vehicle, the risk of death increases yet again. In that event, a motorcyclist is 20 times more likely to die than a car driver.

This is an excellent article, well written and with a good bunch of facts. The point is well made in the first paragraph. I would urge all 2 wheelers to start really asking some questions about where safety can go - given all the known facts and available technology.. Accidents hurt - take it from one who knows - and your a long time dead - you don't get a second chance

That may be so but then that's also part of what adds to the thrill of riding for a lot of people.

People want the risks, cos that's what adds that little bit of spice to life

A balance between rider responsibility & technology, is whats required. Traction control will cause riders to go even faster [ look @ superbike & moto gp racing] tiered licensing will save more lives than ABS. Contrary to what a harley rider will tell you loud pipes don't save lives. Extended forks & recliner seating positions,don't enhance safety or control. Motorcycles will always afford less physical protection, this can be offset by control, agility & proformance.
