Rio Tinto plans ships for shipping

RIO TINTO has revealed plans to ship at least 9 million tonnes of iron ore a year via a new $US315 million ($358 million) fleet of three giant vessels to help lock in low long-term freight rates.
Rio is also currently waiting for clarification or otherwise of the BHP takeover offer.

all seems to have gone quiet on the takeover front - probably plenty happening in the background - but thats not stopped Rio fromspending money - maybe all adds to the defense strategy as well

all i know is that then minerals are running hot - as they are now - there is a lot of money being spent - a lot of investment - and a lot of work for engineers - it flows right through the supply chain - from digging it out of the ground, process, transport and final process - so whilst the environmentalists might not like it - gee its good for the economy - even countries not directly in the mining scene get a flow on benefit like ship building

the whole world is getting sucked into this self destructing vortex - it makes me weep - we urgently need to stop - take a deep breath - and find a better way

sorry Sandi - it's not going to happen - well certainley not in the short term anyway - these booms have a habit of being followed by a bust - but it doesn't look like happening soon
