New UK nuclear plants imminent ?

It is widely expected that the UK government will announce a nuclear policy next week, which will involve engineering and building new nuclear power plants.  Nuclear operators say they could have new plants running by 2017, helping Britain to meet its 2020 goals for combating climate change.  
Many other countries such as the United States are also well on the way towards a new generation of nuclear power plants and some commentators are expressing concern that there may not be sufficient uranium to service all of these new reactors.
It is interesting to note that at the same time, Germany is phasing out nuclear power because of safety concerns .

No matter what is suggested there are always concerns and reasons not to do it. Most things are better than what we are currently doing so lets just get the ball rolling hey.

Renewable energy sources would be great, that's for sure, but they are also a ways off and the environment is being damaged now. By all means lets still develop them but we can't wait till they're developed before we start changing our ways.

Nuclear seems like a good middle point to me.

There's always concerns over safety however I haven't heard of any nuclear disaster or problems since Chernobyl and the technology has improved immensely since then surely.

if they are going to ramp up building more reactors - i would have more issues with the building standards, quality, training and running of the plants - sure there is knowledge about but its not the sort of "cook book" engineering that anybody can do without a really good knowledge of the industry - and then when it gets to running the plants ??!!!- scary stuff if you ask me
