First Chinese designed hybrid car

Clipped to the Drawing Board by Yan Chu

Hybrid cars are now being designed, engineered and manufactured in China by the state-owned Chang'an Automobile group. This is the first hybrid car to be designed and produced by a Chinese automaker,
A report states that - "This shows Chinese automakers have grasped the core technology of making hybrid cars," and adds that Chang'an will donate 10 vehicles to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

General Motors announced rcently that it would build an advanced research center in Shanghai to develop hybrid technology and other advanced designs,

I guess that there are plenty of manufacturers wanting to show their "green" credentials at the Beijing Olympics - the Chinese are very big on "show" so this would be a big thing for them to prove their ability - I wonder how much was reverse engineered ?

the basic technology has been around for a long time - and reverse engineering ? well all manufacturers do it - don't they . Buy opposition products - strip them down and copy plus try and improve - The Japs were masters of doing that in the early days of their industrial development - so whats the big deal

copy or reverse engineering (to be politically correct) is a national pastime in China - with everything - so thats not going to get too many people excited I think that most people accept it - buy cheap copies and move on

the big issue is usually quality - they can always get these products to "look the part" - but will they work and if they do work - will they keep working - I would only buy a Chinese product on the basis that it is very cheap and if it doesn't perform or fails - be prepared to throw it away

I think that this hybrid is just there to make a "statement" - hard to see it selling in any great numbers in China - maybe there could be an export market for them tho' - thats when quality becomes an issue as they will be competing with the established players like Toyota, who sell on quality engineering and design

check out the attached link - it looks pretty impressive - they seem to be ticking all the right boxes but again and as noted previously - will the build quality be there

just look at the facts - if the Chinese can develop a space program - surely a hybrid car should be pretty easy - they are a very clever and industrious people - you are just being paranoid in saying that they everything
Sophie () Newbie | 2007-12-18 04:09:16
quite frankly I suspect that most of the space program was probably copied - look at the facts yourself - you can't start something like this from scratch and be so far advanced without a fairly major injection of confidential information - and I doubt that it was freely given by the US
