Hydropolis-Luxury Under Water Hotel

Looking for something different to visit ? How about one of the world's most spectacular, breathtaking, and startling architectural projects. Constructed with "state of the art" engineering, there are only a few locations in the world where such a grandiose dream could be realised.
Due to be opened in December 2007 is the Hydropolis in Dubai. Claimed to be the world's first luxury underwater hotel. It will include three elements: the land station, where guests will be welcomed, the connecting tunnel, which will transport people by train to the main area of the hotel, and the 220 suites within the submarine leisure complex.

only in Dubai - what a fantastic development - amazing what can be achieved with vision and lots of money - the technological challenges must have been enormous - can't wait to visit

I wonder if the Maintenance Engineering positions have been filled yet ?
I could fancy working on this complex - I've done ski resorts and holiday islands and they where good, but I'll bet that this beats em all

just get your name out to them and apply - they can only say no - I wonder what sort of maintenance team they are going to run on the complex - I know that it's all new, but I'll bet there will be plenty of teething troubles and the management will want everything perfect from day 1 - I'll bet that they pay well

if your getting well paid then I'm sure they will expect you to jump when they say jump - and to stay in the air till it's fixed - if you can't stand the heat - stay out of the kitchen

you guys can enjoy the maintenance side of things - me I'd rather forget all of that and enjoy the experience - tho' being an engineer, you never really switch off - I'm always looking at machinery and mentally redesigning or wondering about maintenance procedures - see, I'm at it again - I need to switch off and get a life ....

I understand your problems so I would be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and completely switch off for a week whilst I go and experience the complex - as a normal visitor - If anyone wants to contribute funding I would be pleased to report back afterwards on the difficulties engineers have in switching off during a holiday. All donations greatfully accepted

fascinating, if that article is anything to go by we could be experiencing Water World for real in a very short time.

I'm sure it would cause mass chaos but at the same time the idea of living on floating cities sounds cool

Don't know if they're right or not but looking at this article it looks like the oceans will rise but we're not really looking at a water world just yet.

Well that article is based of studies done in 1995. The previous article states that what's happening now was not anticipated at all. So the estimates from your article could be way off.

Just think about how many major cities are near the ocean. Even if it was just a rise of 20 meters it would be enough to have to relocate vast numbers of people. It would cause massive chaos.

Not only that but a lot of the higher regions are actually forest areas so there would potentially be a lot of forest cleared to create room for all these people which would damage the environment further.

Alternatively the worlds population would have to shrink dramatically which is another scary thought but could happen naturally due to famine and disease.

on a slightly different tack - something like 80% of the world is water and whilst we have explored most of the land mass - (sort of) there are vast areas undersea where we don't have much if any information - so whilst space travel is a good thing - maybe we should be putting a lot more into exploring and working out how we can live underwater !! - just a thought
