iPhone tops Google 2007 Search

Combining a phone, music player and Web browser, analysts say Apple Inc's iPhone is also gaining ground as a "must have" business tool,  despite the flaws.
Google Inc's search engines in 2007 had the iPhone in the number 1 slot on a list of the fastest rising search terms in the US.  This represents a stunning achievement for a product which was only released last summer in the US.  
As always,  the Apple trademark of innovation and quality engineering is leading the product line, and industry observers see it being a serious challenger to Motion Ltd's popular Blackberry line.

Yeah competition is great but entering is even better because up until now we've really been seeing a lot of the same old same old. Apple has a tendency to shake things up, and for the better mostly.

I'm really looking forward to seeing where things go from here.

I can't see Apple dominating but I can see them grabbing a larger chunk than what the competition would like. The market is so diverse and there's going to be a large chunk that both RIM and Nokia are always going to serve better.

True that, Then we've also got Google to throw in the mix as well and they are another company that has a tendency to be innovative and usually for the better as well. The mobile market is due for a bit shakeup indeed.

Oh, and even more interesting is that Apple and Google are getting quite friendly with each other as well. We know that they both worked together to get Google Maps working nice on the iPhone. I wonder what else they may have in store but when 2 quite successful and radical innovators team up I think we have some true magic in the making.

With the swag of online apps that Google is accumulating now, and the fact that mobiles are increasingly becoming connected to the net it seems logical really. And if they marry all those services seamlessly with their mobile devices I think we will have a real winner on our hands there.

If they get it right I know I'd definitely be interested.

I'm skeptical. I'm sure Google will put together some awesomeness on the software side of things but then the hardware has been left to the other manufacturers and there is the weak link.

Apple is so successful because they handle the whole product and so you have the hardware matched perfectly to the software and complementing each other. Here you will have the hardware developed by a different set of manufacturers with different ideas on how things should be done and different mindsets and the overall product is going to fall short of the tightly knit product from Apple.

there are some other really BIG players in the mix too - its a big marketplace - but can 1 dominate ?? watch out for a string of cheap (and nasty?)Chinese copies

That will most likely be the case but the cheap knockoffs won't have the same 'it just works' feel that quality really delivers. I think Apple is onto another winner here. And we've only just touched the tip in terms of apps being developed for this machine. It's got a whole heap o potential really.

they are all big names, Apple seems to ride a roller coaster type of business model (all up or all down) but they certainly created huge interest and publicity and demand with the iPhone and just at the moment - they can't seem to do any wrong

Well they do do some wrongs but they also tend to learn from them and fix them up too. They also aren't afraid to do things differently and you're always going to miss the mark sometimes when you do that.

Steve is the true reason for that success. As a CEO he is amazingly passionate and seems to have amazingly high standards that he just won't back down from. I imagine it would be very hard working with him and trying to keep up to and maintain his level.
